Flags and Arms

National Flag of Slobovia

The National Flag of Slobovia consists of a horizontal tricolor triband of dark green (0,96,0), red (255,0,0) and azure (0,128,255). The ratio of its width to its length is 3:5. The flag's design originated under the socialist regime that existed for a short time in 2003; the original Slobovish tricolor was designed by Ryan Caruso. One version or another of the Slobovish tricolor has been used in every incarnation of Slobovia since then, with the exception of the 2005 Kingdom of Slobovia (which used a fimbriated Scandinavian cross flag with the same colors).

State Flag of the Slobovish Republic

The State Flag of the Slobovish Republic consists of the national flag charged with the coat of arms. The state flag is a variant of the national flag restricted solely to use by the government and agencies of the Republic. The state flag also serves as the state ensign, much as the national flag also serves as the civil ensign. The state flag is also used as the war flag, although there is a separate war ensign.

War Ensign of the Slobovish Republic

The War Ensign of the Slobovish Republic is based on the flag of the Arminian Commonwealth, of which Slobovia was a foudning member. The flag of the Arminian Commonwealth consisted of a black Scandinavian cross on a white background with a red canton chared with three gold stars. The Slobovish war ensign is essentially the same design, except lengthened to the 3:5 ratio common in Slobovia's present set of flags and replacing the canton with the Slobovish state flag.

Standard of the State President

The Standard of the State President consists of a red field charged with the coat of arms and bordered at the top, the fly and the bottom by the national colors. The ratio of its width to its length is 1:1, the only major current Slobovish flag which does not have a width to length ratio of 3:5. It is used as a symbol for the State Presidency, and is thus the standard of the head of state.

Coat of Arms of the Slobovish Republic

The Coat of Arms of the Slobovish Republic consists of a blue (0,128,255) disk charged with a phoenix, a spike maul, and, in the background behind the spike maul, a crossed hoe and pick, a ring of rye surrounding the disk and ribbons displaying the national colors wrapped around the lower portions of the ring of rye. Although called the Coat of Arms of the Slobovish Republic (Wævfn þer Slobowischer Republik), it is technically an emblem, as it does not follow heraldic rules. The ring of rye and the hoe represent agricultural workers, the spike maul represents industrial and construction workers and the pick represents miners. The phoenix represents Slobovia itself; the firebird has been a symbol of Slobovia since 2005, as a representation of Slobovia's tendency to not stay dead.

Motto

The Motto of the Slobovish Republic is Þu Woltsch, Þu Kantsch, which translates directly to English as "Thou Willt, Thou Canst". The precise meaning of the phrase is, however, closer to the English phrase "Where there's a will, there's a way" (i.e., it essentially imparts the idea that if you want to do something strongly enough, you can).

National Anthem

The National Anthem of the Slobovish Republic is Outz þen Aschen (Slobovish for "Out of the Ashes"), a song whose lyrics were written by Tregh Tomsohnd in 2010. The melody of Outz þen Aschen is the same as that of Auferstanden aus Ruinen, the national anthem of the German Democratic Republic (i.e., East Germany).
