Slobovia and Micronationalism
- What is Slobovia?

The Slobovish Republic is a recreational micronation, i.e. an imaginary country, which encompasses a social, economic and political simulation constructed for recreation and entertainment, the exercise of fantasy and creative fiction, the promotion of some agendas, etc. It can be said that a micronation of this type is a cross between a virtual community and a play-by-post role-playing game. It fits with the definition of a virtual community in that it is a (usually quite small) social network of individuals who interact through digital media, regardless of geography and real-world political boundaries, in order to pursue common interests and discuss a wide variety of topics. It fits with the definition of a play-by-post role-playing game in that the persons involved assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting (albeit, these characters are usually based largely on the players themselves) and gameplay is conducted over internet forums. It can, however, become a somewhat addictive hobby, which arouses much passion in its participates, who often become extremely emotionally invested and come to points where they forget that it's only a game.

- Is Slobovia a Fascist state?

Absolutely not. Slobovia has taken a strong stance, in the past, of being opposed to fascist, national socialist and falagist regimes and continues to do so. Worthy of note is that, in micronations, authoritarianism tends to be unworkable, as the enforcement of excessively totalitarian rules and laws tends to drive people away, which is a bad thing for a micronation, generally equivalent to the nation bleeding to death (essentially, the citizens of a micronation are its lifeblood; without them, it will die). For that reason, there have been extremely few fascist micronations, and the ones that have existed generally do not last very long. Slobovia takes a strong stand in favor of respecting people's rights and in opposition to discrimination based on meaningless superficial factors such as skin pigmentation, religious beliefs and sex. Everyone is welcome in Slobovia, and everyone is generally free in Slobovia.

- Is Slobovia a Marxist state?

Not presently. Slobovia had a short experiment with Marxism in 2003, but it didn't last long. Marxists are, however, completely welcome in Slobovia, so far as you leave the idea of proletarian revolution at the door (violent revolution is difficult in micronations, unless you have access to the forum's administrative control panel; but even when it's possible, it's absolutely unacceptable and an easy way to become a pariah in the intermicronational community).

- Is Slobovia a Christian nation?

No. Slobovia is entirely secular. It does not espouse an official religion whatsoever, and we aim to keep it that way. In Slobovia, we don't assume that any religion is more right or wrong than any other, so long as its fundamental principles do not include harming people. Peaceful and respectful adherents of all religions (including atheism and agnosticism in this case) are welcome, so far as they do not force their beliefs on everyone else.

- What type of micronation is Slobovia?

As mentioned above, Slobovia is a recreational micronation. This means that the Slobovish experience is that of a community, a hobby and a game.

- Are there any other micronations besides Slobovia?

Yes, and many. There exists worldwide hundreds of micronations, especially in the US, Canada, Brazil, Europe, Australia and New Zealand (in other words, most micronationalists are from first world countries that rank very high in the Human Development Index), although there are micronations and micronationalists everywhere. Slobovia tends to gravitate towards other virtual-oriented online micronations, particularly those included on the Micronational Cartography Society's fictional planet of Micras.

- How serious is micronationalism?

Slobovia tends to fall into the category of micronations that are essentially games and virtual communities; in this category, it's a hobby (a hobby we sometimes take somewhat seriously, but a hobby no less). There are other kinds of micronations, however, including secessionist projects, new country projects, etc. The secessionist and new country micronationalists tend to have somewhat degrading opinions on hobby micronationalists, thinking that they're not "serious" enough to warrant being called micronationalists. This has never really phased hobby micronationalists, however, as we've tended to consider the secessionist and new country micronationalists as being more or less insane.

Slobovish Citizenship
- How do I become a Slobovish citizen?

Citizenship in Slobovia is regulated under the Slobovish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 2003. It basically states that anyone is allowed to become a citizen of Slobovia unless the person lied in their application form or is unlikely to be loyal to the Republic in intermicronational affairs.

We recommend that you have access to the internet at least once a week, a working email account (which can be obtained through various service providers) and a posting account on our forums, before you submit an application (in fact, since the application form is integrated into our forums, you will need a posting account before you can apply).

- How much do I need to pay for Slobovish citizenship?

Absolutely nothing. We are not a commercial enterprise and therefore do not charge a fee to become a citizen of Slobovia. All Slobovish assets are paid for or provided by donors (anonymous or otherwise). Most micronations do no charge for citizenship, and we recommend that you avoid any "micronation" that charges compulsory fees of real money for anything, as there have been fraudulent enterprises that have masqueraded as micronations before.

- Can I have citizenship in another micronation and still join Slobovia?

Slobovia does not encourage dual micronational citizenship. This is due to difficulties that Slobovia has endured in the past with dual citizens whose efforts and loyalties were divided between Slobovia and other micronations. Nonetheless, Slobovish citizenship is open to citizens of other micronations which are not at war with Slobovia.

- What is the exact process of citizenship?

When you send your application form, it will be posted to a private forum, wherein officials of the State Bureau of Citizenship and Naturalization will process it. You may be contacted with further inquiries if there are any questions that come to the officials' minds. If there is no legal reason to deny your application, it will probably be accepted within one week, at which point a certificate of naturalization will be posted in the State Bureau of Citizenship and Naturalization's public forum. If you don't respond to that post within two days, the Bureau will then attempt to contact you to inform you of the good news.

- What can I do as a citizen of Slobovia?

Pretty much anything. Slobovia offers essentially unlimited opportunities for participation, so long as you have the will to participate. As Slobovia is in a state of revival and reconstruction, we have plenty of room for new citizens, if you would like to actively participate in the politics of this micronation, we have many vacant ministerial and administrative positions, if you would like to have limited participation in this micronation then you can seek provincial office in a province of your choice. If you would like to join but are apprehensive about doing anything right now, you can become a citizen and apply for government positions later! Even if you do not want or get a public office, you can still participate in the State Diet (which is open to all citizens), or start a business or take up work in our virtual economy.
